Fluid Contamination Causing Transmission Failure

Numerous Nissan vehicles equipped with the RE5R05A 5-speed automatic transmission as part of their powertrains have experienced premature transmission failure due to contamination of transmission fluid with engine coolant.

The fluid contamination occurs due to failure of the transmission fluid cooler located within the radiator.

NEW RADIATOR INCLUSION

In order to assure complete elimination of engine coolant as a re-contamination source, ETE is supplying new radiators with each RE5R05A transmission sold. ETE has determined entire radiator replacement is a more cost-effective method to preserve the warranty than to require installation of an external remote fluid cooler.

New radiators are equipped with an upgraded transmission fluid cooler to assure against further fluid contamination.

As with other transmission replacements, the cooler lines must still be flushed to remove any residual contaminants.

Even the slightest amount of residual contamination will cause a repeat failure of clutch seals!

The cooler lines must also be inspected for obstructions or other impediments to proper flow. Rusted or kinked cooler lines must be replaced.

Please refer to vehicle-specific repair guides, such as factory documentation, AllData, or Mitchell, for complete radiator R&R instructions.
